MACK LIVE: Gianni Celati's 'The World of Luigi Ghirri'

To mark the thirtieth anniversary of the passing of Luigi Ghirri, we are delighted to present a special screening of The World of Luigi Ghirri (Il Mondo di Luigi Ghirri), a documentary exploring Ghirri's transformative way of seeing the world made by his friend and collaborator Gianni Celati, who died January 2022.

The World of Luigi Ghirri tells the story of Ghirri’s approach to photography, revolving around the miniature theatre at the Castle of Fontanellato, as though a play were in progress, and Ghirri’s home in the countryside near Roncocesi. A chorus of friends and admirers analyse and pay tribute to his craft.

This one-time screening will not be available to watch back. Sign up is required to access the viewing link. A limited number of sign ups will be available on a first come first served basis. Shown in Italian with English subtitles. Run time: 52 minutes.

About Puglia. Tra albe e tramonti

Puglia. Tra albe e tramonti offers a brilliant account of Luigi Ghirri’s relationship with Puglia — a distinctive region at the heel of Italy, which was pivotal in establishing his career and continued to inspire him throughout it. A first visit in 1982 introduced Ghirri to Puglia’s whitewashed streets, luminescent nights, doorways, funfairs, and beaches, as well as a group of friends and collaborators. Over the following decade, he returned to the area almost every year, deepening his understanding of its subtle terrain. These photographs, almost all of which are little-known and previously unpublished, capture the textures and rhythms of daily life, delighting in tactile detail, visual coincidence, and the ebb and flow of time on an intimate scale.
